Ruben Amorim, the incoming Manchester United manager, has indicated that he will not be pursuing any Sporting Lisbon players during the January transfer window. However, he has not dismissed the possibility of a summer move for the talented Viktor Gyokeres, who has been a standout performer for Sporting Lisbon. Manchester United, struggling with their goal-scoring prowess this season with only eight goals in nine games, could be looking at Gyokeres as a potential solution. The 26-year-old Swedish striker has already found the net 18 times this season, following his impressive 43 goals last term, but his release clause is set at a hefty £84 million.

Amorim has stated, "I’m not going to get any players from Sporting in January. Gyokeres costs 100 million and it’s very difficult." Despite his public stance, behind the scenes, Sporting Lisbon is anticipating that Amorim may target some of his former players, including Gyokeres, when the summer transfer window opens. Gyokeres, who is also being tracked by Arsenal, has not completely closed the door on a move to the Premier League, saying, "Going with Amorim to Man Utd? I don’t know… I’m here. As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting. It’s nothing I think about. I’m just sad about him leaving. We wish him all the best." In addition to Gyokeres, Amorim is also rumored to be interested in bringing Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande to Old Trafford. However, Amorim has not yet engaged in any discussions with Manchester United's current players, including his fellow Portuguese, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. He has maintained his focus on Sporting Lisbon ahead of his move to Manchester United on November 11, saying, "As for United, I haven’t spoken to anyone — not even the players. I’m focused on Sporting." Former Manchester United winger Nani has shown his support for Amorim, believing he is well-placed to succeed at the club. Nani commented, "He is in an excellent place and has all the conditions to do well."

Morten Hjulmand is another player that Amorim may consider bringing in as he takes the helm at Manchester United.
